This is my notes from TOF 2014. Please have whatever you read verified with scholars first okay? I ight have noted it done wrongly.

Sh Tawfique Chowdury

Closer Than Your Jugular Vein

Surah Qaf ( QS 50 )

-Complete message about the akhirat.
-Living in dunya is comparatively half a day to that of akhirah.
-Rasulullah would recite the surah during Jumuah and Eid prayer.
-The one who created the heart is the one who can fix it.

People don't like to talk about the akhirah. Why?
It is because our life has been about building our dunya instead of akhirah.
Almost none in this world has a 24/7 job of building the akhirah.

Verse 16:

It was We Who created man, and We know what dark suggestions his soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein.

Verse 17:

Behold, two (guardian angels) appointed to learn (his doings) learn (and noted them), one sitting on the right and one on the left.

Verse 18:

Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him, ready (to note it).

'Atid > The angels are fully ready to note down. Even the ah and the uh.

Rasulullah saw in Jahannam the people who had mails made of steel and kept on scratching their faces with it.

Verse 19:

And the stupor of death will bring Truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!"
And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what you have been avoiding!"

Verse 20:

And the Trumpet will be blown, that will be the Day whereof warning (had been given) (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).

Three blows:
Second: Everything will be destroyed.
Third: Everything will be resurrected again.

Israfil is an angel who never blinks because he is scared that the moment to blow the horn might come.
Rasulullah had a dream where Israfil has taken a deep breath, puffed his cheeks and took the horn and eyes looked up to the throne of Allah waiting for the command.

Verse 21:

And every person will come forth along with an (angel) to drive (him), and an (angel) to bear witness.

Witnessing angel will be for you or against you.

Verse 22:

(It will be said to the sinners): "Indeed you were heedless of this, now We have removed your covering, and sharp is your sight this Day!"

This day is completely unaware of. We are unaware of angels writing down our very deeds.

Verse 23:

And his companion (angel) will say: "Here is (this Record) ready with me!"

Verse 24:

(And it will be said): "Both of you throw (Order from Allah to the two angels) into Hell, every stubborn disbeliever (in the Oneness of Allah, in His Messengers, etc.).

In authetic Al Bukhari hadith, Rasulullah said on this day, Allah will be very angry. Never have Allah been very angry before and never will be that angry after. 999/1000 will go to Jahannam.

Ask yourself, do you not deserve Jahannam?

Ibn Abbas said whoever delays the solah will come on the day of Judgment with Allah being angry at us.

We are all doomed except for the mercy ofAllah. Nobody will enter Jannahpurely because of his deeds.
If Allah was to take all those who went against him, verily nobody will be left in this dunya.

Verse 25:

(And it will be said): "Both of you throw (Order from Allah to the two angels) into Hell, every stubborn disbeliever (in the Oneness of Allah, in His Messengers, etc.).

Verse 25:

"Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter,

The one who stops the good (these days against each other - organizations, syaikh - if you do not have something good to say then keep quiet )
The one who transgresses the limits and boundaries
The one who doubts

Verse 26:

"Who set up another ilah (god) with Allah, then (both of you) cast him in the severe torment."

Other ilah could be the opinions of other people on certain matters, so we end up not doing good because we are scared of what others have to say about us. Eg: muslims are terrorist so we don't do da'wah. Like not wearing the hijab because you look like a ninja.

Never put the love of your husband over the love of Allah!

Verse 27:

His companion (Satan devil)] will say: "Our Lord! I did not push him to transgress, (in disbelief, oppression, and evil deeds) but he was himself in error far astray."

Today he is a friend, tomorrow he is the enemy.

Verse 28:

Allah will say: "Dispute not in front of Me, I had already, in advance, sent you the threat.

This surah is the warning. Allah has sent His warnings.

Verse 29:

The Sentence that comes from Me cannot be changed, and I am not unjust (to the least) to the slaves."

If you do good - jannah. If you do bad - jahannam.

Verse 30:

On the Day when We will say to Hell: "Are you filled?" It will say: "Are there any more (to come)?"

1- either Jahannam will say in amazement.
2. either Jahannam will say in hunger.

Jahannam will never cease to receive, the more you put in Jahannam, the hotter it becomes, the hungrier it becomes, until Allah decided that it is full.

Verse 31:

And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) not far off.

Verse 32:

(It will be said): "This is what you were promised, - (it is) for those oft-returning (to Allah) in sincere repentance, and those who preserve their covenant with Allah (by obeying Him in all what He has ordered, and worship none but Allah Alone, i.e. follow Allah's Religion, Islamic Monotheism).

It is natural to sin, but it is unnatural to keep sinning. One sin cancels of one hidayah.

Verse 33:

"Who feared the Most Beneficent (Allah) in the Ghaib (unseen): (i.e. in this worldly life before seeing and meeting Him), and brought a heart turned in repentance (to Him - and absolutely free from each and every kind of polytheism),

If you fear Allah in private, fearing Him in public will be easy. Those who fear in Allah in the depth of night - massive reward awaits.

Verse 34:

"Enter you therein in peace and security; this is a Day of eternal life!"

Verse 35:

There they will have all that they desire, and We have more (for them, i.e. a glance at the All-Mighty, All-Majestic).

In authentic hadith, Allah will ask the people in "Jannah are you satisfied?"

They answered yes because Allah saved them from Jahannam.

Allah will remove the hijab of light that is covering His face for the people to see.

Verse 36:

And how many a generation We have destroyed before them, who were stronger in power than them, and (when Our Torment came) they ran for a refuge in the land! Could they find any place of refuge (for them to save themselves from destruction)?

Verse 37:

Verily, therein is indeed a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear while he is heedful.

Heart: the one who has the ability to understand.

Verse 38:

And indeed We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in six Days and nothing of fatigue touched Us.

No fatigue - understand the greatness of Allah. His might. He can surely do it ina day, but it is His wisdom that He built in 6 days.

Verse 39:

So bear with patience (O Muhammad SAW) all that they say, and glorify the Praises of your Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting (i.e. the Fajr, Zuhr, and 'Asr prayers).

Praise Allah! Remember Him! Don't just pray and go. Think about the du'a you are making.

Verse 40:

And during a part of the night (also), glorify His praises (i.e. Maghrib and 'Isha prayers), and (so likewise) after the prayers [As-Sunnah, Nawafil optional and additional prayers, and also glorify, praise and magnify Allah - Subhan Allah, Alhamdu lillah, Allahu-Akbar].

Whoever recites ayatul kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing will stop you from entering Jannah except death.

Verse 41:

And listen on the Day when the caller will call from a near place,

Meaning every single person will be able to hear the call for resurretion.

Verse 42:

The Day when they will hear As-Saihah (shout, etc.) in truth, that will be the Day of coming out (from the graves i.e. the Day of Resurrection).

Some scholars said scream of the people, some said the blowing of horn.

Verse 43:

Verily, We it is Who give life and cause death; and to Us is the final return,

Verse 44:

On the Day when the earth shall be cleft, from off them, (they will come out) hastening forth. That will be a gathering, quite easy for Us.

Verse 45:

We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad SAW) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Quran, him who fears My Threat.

Rasulullah was only told to inform, not enforce upon them.
